The 2018 Washington State Legislative Session saw two bills that mentioned Bigfoot try to become laws, both failing to make it out of Committee and never reaching a vote on the floor. Senate Bill 5816 made Bigfoot Washington State’s Official Cryptid (much like Washington has a State song and a State flower) and Bill 6151 created a specialty license plates with Bigfoot on it. Money from the plates would go to benefit Washington State Parks.
The idea of Specialty Bigfoot Plates picked up steam when it was mentioned by Bob Gimlin of the infamous Gimlin-Patterson Bigfoot footage, both in interviews and at conferences. With the approach of the 2019 session, I think their is sufficient support to get a Bill passed that makes Bigfoot themed plates an option for WA State residents and here is how we’ll do it.
- Figure out who represents you in Olympia. Use your address to determine your District, Senator and two Reps. The links on the map of the results will take you to their pages on the leg.wa.gov site ( you can also look them up at Senators and Representatives)
- Contact your Legislators! Email, write letters, Twitter, FaceBook, where ever they are. Tell them you support Bigfoot themed specialty plates for Washington State. Be sure to mention supporting the funds generated from the sale of the plates goes to Washington State Parks. After a bill is created, we’ll fine tune this messaging a bit, but lets start by creating a buzz around the idea.
- In addition to your own Legislator, it is recommended you reach out to the Senators who sponsored the last bill, Senators Ann Rivers, Steve Hobbs, Curtis King, Mark Mullet, Kevin Van De Wege, and Patty Kuderer.
- Send WashingtonBigfoot.com copies, screenshots, links or pictures of your letters. With your permission, I will post them and when we get to present in front of the Transportation Committee, I’ll bring them in to show citizen support.
- If you post to FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram or other platforms about WA State Specialty Bigfoot Plates, use the hashtag #WAStateBigFootPlates
Once a bill gets dropped, we’ll focus our communications on the bill number, but for now, we need to make some noise to get it started.
Washington needs a unique and cool license plate option. Washington doesn’t have many cool options. I feel the Bigfoot plate is a wonderful opportunity
Been checking to see if the Bigfoot license plates are available yet. Waiting for this to happen.
Let’s get going on this new license plate with Bigfoot. Impatiently waiting.
